How to create the perfect souvenir made in Switzerland
After watching the Program Travel Men, where the British comedian Richard Ayoade and a celebrity guest spend 48 hours in Zurich to discover the must see tourist attractions, I was fascinated by the idea of creating my own pocket knife in Switzerland. I always heard that the white pocket knives can only be bought over there. Not sure if this is true, but what a perfect souvenir to bring home, right? In this blog post I will describe how you can create the perfect souvenir made in Switzerland.
Where to create your pocket

Looking for a place to buy our authentic pocket knife, the Tourist Information Center in Geneva recommended the Vitorinox. Geneva has the official Victorinox Flagship Store, located at Rue du Marché in the downtown of Geneva. The store is so beautiful that I and Luiz were wondering if we should enter. Luiz said the store is too fancy for people like us, but I decided to give it a try and to my surprise, you can buy a pocket knife for 12 bucks over there.
How to personalize your pocket knife at Vitorinox
In Geneva the Flagship Store has one floor dedicated for tourists.As you may imagine, quality, functionality and an iconic design are the main values of the brand, so there is no better place in Switzerland to buy your legit pocket knife.
My experience creating my souvenir made in Switzerland
You can personalize the functionalities of your knife, and the design by selecting your color, your engraving, your material. How it works:
- Choose your knife – There are 6 main options from CFH 12 – 43, the price varies according to the features of each knife
- Choose your scale – There are 20 options including the beautiful travel designs, it’s CFH 2.50 per side
- Choose your engraving – You are able to personalize the blade or the shell and each either of them is CFH 5
Then to avoid mistakes you need to write the text you wish to add in your knife and choose the font, and then voilá, 10 minutes later you have a knife to call yours.
My experience at Victorinox in Geneva personalizing my own pocket knife
- The feature essential for us was the wine opener 😉 which cost us CFH 27
- We preferred the white one, since this is the legit Swiss one. It’s hard to choose! There is no extra cost for solid colors. Good!
- We decided to engraving the shell with @travelbehindthelens to create a beautiful memory of this trip
The guy helped me to write the name and interact with the “product creation”. The store also offers masterclasses if you want to learn to cut vegetables or meat with perfection, tours if you want to know the process behind the scenes, workshops to create iconic designs and classes if you want to create the knife from scratch. Reservation required for all of them. In addition, Victorinox offers products other than Swiss Army Knives, such as cutlery, travel gear, fragrances and the beautiful watches.
Even though you can find the limited pocket knife edition for about CFH 12, the final cost of my pocket knife was CFH 65, which is not cheap I know, but OMG I was SO happy with my new souvenir made in Switzerland. You can choose any other product and engraving the name on it.
